Pressure Die Casting Process

There are many manufacturing companies which rely on Die casting processes. The main benefit which the industries get is that they can easily get high volume metal components. The manufacturing industry like auto, aerospace and power tools industries rely on various Die casting process. Pressure Die casting is one of the process. The main advantage of using this type of process is economical, as it has lower cost compare to other process, also castings with this type of process has a good surface finish.

Type of Pressure die casting process are:

  •   High Pressure Die Casting
  •   Low Pressure Die Casting
  •   High Pressure Die Casting

·      High Pressure Die Casting

High pressure die casting is the process where identical metal parts are injected in molten metal under pressure into a metal die. This process is repetitive and requires complex machinery. This type of casting is best when there is high production rates. It provides the best surface finish.

High Pressure die casting includes:

1. Hot chamber die casting Process

Hot chamber die casting is also known as “Gooseneck casting”. It is one of the popular die casting process. This process can be used with the metals like zinc, magnesium, copper and other low melting alloys. In short this process is ideal for the metals that does not attack and erode metal pots and have low melting points. In this process, the cylinder chamber of the injection mechanism is completely immersed in the molten metal bath. A Gooseneck metal feed system draws the molten metal into the die cavity.

2.  Cold-Chamber Die Casting Process

Cold chamber die casting process is also in the same lines when compared to hot chamber die casting process. This process is ideal to be used with the aluminium metal which has the high melting point. For the metals that are prone to be corrosive for hot chamber die casting process, cold chamber can be a good alternative. In this process the melted metal is automatically- or hand-ladled into the injection system. This eliminates the necessity for the injection mechanism to be immersed in the molten metal bath.

•  Low Pressure Die Casting Process

Low pressure die casting is best suited for aluminium metals which are symmetric around the axis of rotation. In this process the metal is introduced in the chill mold. With the help of Gas pressure the metal is hold in the die till it gets solidifies. Production rates are not as good as compared to the high pressure.

There are various Application where  Pressure Die Casting can be implemented, some of them are:

  • Automotive parts like wheels, blocks, cylinder heads, manifolds etc.
  • Aerospace castings.
  • Electric motor housings.
  • Kitchen ware such as pressure cooker.
  • Cabinets for the electronics industry.
  • General hardware appliances, pump parts, plumbing parts.
